However, to find the right terrain for this passion or to take part in a race, we sometimes have to travel many kilometers. The most compromised part of the horse trailer is the chassis
The chassis of a horse trailer in this regard is not much different from the chassis of a conventional trailer, as the greatest danger is caused by environmental damage, weather conditions, load and time. By environmental damage we mean for example if you have to drive on a potholed, bumpy road which may help you pass some kidney stones. These bumps are not only detrimental for the maneuvering of the vehicle, but also wear out all the elements of the support structure, so it is worth taking a look before each trip to make sure everything is in place and working according to its function. Most of the metal elements that make up the chassis take on the weather similarly to an old lady: it is not okay when it rains, it is a problem when it is cold or when there is a heatwave… because it rusts, expands, snaps, loosens, etc. Fortunately, at Autóflex-Knott you can get all the parts you need right away so you can get on the road safely after a quick replacement.
Custom-made horse trailer superstructures
Utilizing the interior of a horse trailer depends primarily on how many animals we want to transport with it at one time. To transport a horse, it is more than enough to choose the single space model, as this will have an ideal weight distribution, and the well-trimmed interior will prevent the horse from making too many deflections sideways during the drive. If you have a larger (two-space) horse carrier, it is still possible to transport and animal safely with the appropriate fastening devices if the horse is placed in the middle of the trailer. The transport of two animals in a two-space trailer is also optimal, but due to the extra weight, we need to pay even more attention to the integrity of certain parts of the vehicle. Naturally, the interior space distribution of the horse trailers is limited only by the engineer’s imagination and the financial possibilities of the customer as well. Some models have a front door, some have ventilation windows on both sides or a fully openable and removable rear door which also makes cleaning much easier. It is important that the ramp for getting on and off is stable, thus excluding the possibility of accidents.
If you have already selected a superstructure, it is advisable to design the appropriate axle and other accessories for it, such as the drawbar and the frame drawbar. It is worth using a coil spring axle as it makes the journey absolutely more comfortable.

Stable chassis for easy maneuvers
It is important that a good chassis corrects the oscillations caused by the movement of the animals while driving and tolerates changes in the centre of gravity of the trailer well on uneven road sections and bends. However, compliance with load capacity and speed limits is also important, as even the most top-notch chassis cannot prevent an overloaded trailer from drifting.
Do not go full tilt!
We know that in this case a lot of horsepower is doubly true, but you still need to know how to stop. In addition, we carry a lot of weight, so we always need to check the condition of the brake system before starting.
