In our previous blog post we mentioned that during the coronavirus epidemic more people are looking for alternatives for vacationing during which they can maintain the appropriate social distance. The caravan or the motorhome provide the perfect solution for this. Continuing this topic in our current blog post we are looking for the answer to what to look out for and what to check on your vehicle before a caravan or motorhome trip.
What should you check before departing with a caravan or a motorhome?
A caravan or a motorhome? What is the difference between them? The caravan is a type of outfitted trailer that is towed by a vehicle. In contrast, the motorhome rolls on its own wheels just like a minibus and is outfitted with all the extras. Whether you are embarking on a trip by caravan or in a motorhome there are several things to be checked on the vehicles. What are these?
Motorhome inspection:
Tire condition:
The tire must not be damaged, worn or cracked. Check the tire pressure, the tread depth, the surface and the sidewalls as well. Keep in mind that the air pressure must be adjusted to the expected total weight of the vehicle.
Engine oil level:
An oil change can save us a lot of inconvenience, since, if the oil level is very low the vehicle can easily break down, which is a very unpleasant experience during a trip.
Coolant level:
Check the cooling system, paying particular attention to the coolant. After all, in a hilly area it is stressful for the vehicle to operate if the amount of coolant is low.
Checking the lights:
Check all the headlights, turn signals and lights.
Caravan inspection:
As the caravan is a kind of trailer, we recommend studying our article on preparing the trailer for spring. Before you go on holiday by caravan you should definitely check these two things listed below.
Tire condition:
Here too, it is inevitable to check the condition of the tires. Examination of the tire pressure, the tread depth, the surface and the sidewalls is essential before departing.
Checking the lights:
When connecting the caravan, always check the electrical cables, the lights, the headlights, the turn signals and the safety chain as well.
According to the Highway Code you have to check the tires and the lights every day in the case of cars, caravans and motorhomes as well. If you take this advice when travelling, it can save you a lot of inconvenience.
