The secondary connection point between the car and the trailer is the connection between their electrical system the defining part of which is the trailer electrical connector.
Choosing a trailer electrical connector
The trailer connector consists of a socket and a plug, an adapter can be inserted between the two if required. There are usually two types of trailer connectors: the 7-pin connector and the 13-pin connector.
It is worth equipping your car with a 13-pin connector because even in this case there is a solution to towing a trailer with a 7-pin connector. All you need is a low cost 13 to 7 poles adapter. This converts the 13-pin electrical connector to the 7-pin connector used in Hungary.
A 7 to13 poles adapter is also available which allows a car with a 13-pin electrical connector to be connected to a car with a 7-pin connector which is the German standard.
In the case of a mixed connection (7/13 or 13/7) it is important to know that only the most important devices are operational (parking lights, indicators).

Characteristics of a good quality trailer connector.
- A rugged, sealed plastic housing is important to provide greater resistance to weather and corrosion.
- You must pay special attention to the quality of the socket cover. Ideally, you should not have the feeling that the cover can break off every time you open it.
- The copper forks on the contacts have cross-grooved notches for stable electrical connection.
